Announcement: The 9th North American Kagyu Monlam 2018
Dear Dharma Friends, Tashi Delek! The registration for the 9th North American Kagyu Monlam begins now.
With the blessings and instructions of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Danang Foundation sincerely invites all faithful disciples of Tibetan Buddhism, especially fellow followers of the Kagyu Lineage, to support and join in the 9th annual North American Kagyu Monlam to pray for world peace, stability, prosperity, good fortune, health and tranquility for all sentient beings.
His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa has taught on several occasions that the inspiration behind prayer festivals should be the wish to bring diseases, hunger, crime and violence to an end, and that the support of such festivals necessarily brings both merit and wisdom. This accumulation of merit will reap benefits lifetime after lifetime, and eventually lead to the perfection of benefits for self and others, so that one will swiftly attain enlightenment.
The 9th Kagyu Monlam begins on June 6th, 2018 and ends on June 9th, 2018 (four days). Mahayana Sojong Vows will be given each morning, followed by prayers and a meal before noon. There are two sessions of practice each morning and afternoon. The presiding master and some 150 Sangha will lead prayers and dedications for the living and the deceased. The presiding master will also conduct Dharma teachings and bestow empowerments.
A special sutra recitation ceremony will be held at Ground Zero, with the merits dedicated to the victims of September 11.
On June 10 2018, Lamp Offering Prayers (Marme Monlam) will take place at Madison Square Garden, followed by entertainment performances to celebrate the conclusion of the 9th North American Kagyu Monlam.
